A special thank you to Moorabool Shire Council for providing an arts grant to help us fund the day.
We had well over 150 people attend the event, from children to couples, to our senior citizens. The weather was perfect, the activities were inviting, and the creativity flowed.

From Monday 12 July until Friday 6 August an exhibition of photographs and items from the That's Not Art ephemeral art event is open to the public. Items on display include basket nests, felt, banksia men, mandalas and clay faces.
With the support of Moorabool Shire's Moorart Space, located at the Bacchus Marsh Library, the display showcases the processes and resulting artwork from the event.
We invite those who attended That's Not Art to come along and view their creations. We also encourage anyone with an interest in ephemeral art or community art to come along and learn more about what That's Not Art is all about.

Following months of planning and preparation the first That's Not Art event for Bacchus Marsh Community Unlimited was a great success, with over 100 participants on the day engaging in a range of  hands-on ephemeral art experiences. Lead by  a diverse group of enthusiastic and supportive activity leaders and artists, the event provided a lot of opportunities for the community of Bacchus Marsh and those from other areas who attended, to be creative and express themselves through art. There were opportunities for young and old, to teach or be taught, to observe or participate.

The activities had opportunities for joining in, reflection, quiet individual participation, group activity, being able to try something new. With participants aged from toddlers up to the elderly, the event showed that art is for all ages, and that artistic expression isn't just about fine art that is framed and hung on a wall.

Activities on the day  included:
  • mandala  - large group activity with natural objects with Marie Jean Hamilton
  • mandalas - colourful with a variety of objects
  • web threading and hanging insects using natural and found objects
  • clay faces on trees and logs with Blair Angelo
  • object and clay animal/bird/insect sculptures
  • basket weaving with Bacchus Marsh Basket Weavers member
  • felted egg making - lead by 9 year old
  • stick and object figures
  • poetry display and roving poet Jennie Fraine
  • written mandala
  • photography recording and opportunity for amateur photographers
  • framed viewing platform to view the river and natural environment
